Land of pristine forests, active volcanoes, and surfing spots, El Salvador is the smallest and most densely populated country in Central America. It is also a country that is trying to economically and socially lift itself out of poverty. The country's population is mostly made up of mestizos (mixed indigenous and European ancestry)  There are also thousands living in overcrowded barrios with many living in garbage dumps.
